I know another person who works so much on emotions and child development, but as I see, she cannot understand by the looks of me whether I was feeling sad, or just happy (that she took my son off of my back)..
See, I am coming to the point:
Some people try to make their life exciting by working on some of the toughest things, things that they could not understand.. Of course, without saying it goes that we do work on things that we are really good at.. So we are skilled at some things (a natural aka), or so unskilled, that we may work all our life trying to master that skill.
Maybe the professor really did not get the gift of faith ( and so he started to try to convince people by working regarding faith).
Then there is conditioning, deep faith from parents about what life is all about. Like my dad never believed in superstition ( but we see it in super bowl all the time - link that to the level of education of the players). Also he said there were only two faiths , one is man and the other is woman. (but then there was politics, that was a different matter :))
My friends often said that religion is related to the country of birth - we follow local religion (r), customs (c) and practices (p) - we will feel belonged.. see all these r, c, and p were made by our ancestors in keeping with the calendars, the seasons for fruits, vegetables, for celebration, functions, festivals etc.. be a roman while in Rome :))
May be it takes a lot of things to come together to make an atheist / theist..
Yes, I believe that all roads lead to Rome :))
Out here we say:
By believing, we don't lose.
It remains of utmost importance that we do should not say "My religion is right. Yours isnt"
------------------------------
Vegetarians think non-vegetarians are wrong. Here familiarity is the question.
I think, by instinct, use words based on my family of birth - i probably would not say "By the grace of Zoroaster", only because my parents never said things relating that Holy name - may his glory grow more and beyond.. :>
We are just comfortable with things we are familiar with.. same with religion.. but the educated mind will see things beyond.. the theories of narrowism (if any) was planned for the masses ( religion is dope for the masses - marxist motto, but the context is not clear)
More quotes from the internet :O)
Isaac Newton "I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me. "
Albert Einstein - "As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality." we still fly rockets to mars based on his theories..
Einstein proved Newton was wrong, some one else proved Einstein was wrong ??

Both their theories are still used..
M K Gandhi said My religion is a matter between me and my god.
----- Comment (1) by blogger friend-- Thank you.
and i agree with what you say here. you know one of my favorite quotes is: "there are more things in heaven and earth, than are dreamt of in your philosophy" by shakespeare.
so i agree the best thing we can do meanwhile is do our best to be kind to each other and be happy :)
